Sean Habgood's greatest challenge is keeping abreast of activities at Internode, a company that has more than doubled in size in his first two years as Financial Controller.
"The most demanding part of the job is to keep up with the diversity of the business", says Sean.
"It's important to stay on top of everything going on in the company because every activity, whether it's launching a new service or opening a new office in Melbourne, has a financial impact on the company. There are nine department managers each doing their thing, so I'm supposed to stay on top of it all, so it comes together with the financial plan.
"There's so much going on. We are doing innovative things all the time, so I have to understand the technology and relate these things to the commercial reality of dollars and cents.
"The challenge is to get the processes in place. The finance area has grown from 10 to 45 people since I have been here. We have needed to put in controls and systems to keep our success going."
Sean joined Internode in early 2004 after holding senior financial roles at major Australian organisations.
"When I joined the company, we employed well under 100 people and now we have more than 300 employees", he says.
"We've opened offices in Sydney and Melbourne, launched Australia's first ADSL2+ broadband services, deployed our own broadband infrastructure nationally and launched a number of new broadband services including IBC and NodePhone.
"The pace of innovation at Internode is breath-taking, but we have managed to achieve this success while recording strong annual growth and year-on-year profitability. Internode is a great place to be."
While Sean enjoys the dynamic environment provided by Internode, he relishes the downtime spent with his family and friends, especially when they retreat to a family beach house at Goolwa, a coastal town south of Adelaide.
