What is Easy Naked?
Easy Naked is Internode's most popular range of naked ADSL plans. Key features of the current generation of Easy Naked plans include:
- A range of monthly quotas—from 30 GB per month, right up to 1,000 GB per month—the Terabyte plan!
- Either an Internode direct broadband connection—specifically, an Agile DSLAM port, delivering ADSL2+ with Annex M capability on suitable lines—or an Internode connection via the Optus Wholesale access network, delivering ADSL2+ capability on suitable lines.
- New: the current Easy Naked plans are bundled with NodePhone VoIP—including a $10 monthly call credit!
Naked ADSL services are delivered over a copper pair, but without the need for you to rent a telephone service. As well as saving you money, this also means that in many cases ADSL can be delivered at a greater distance from the local exchange.
The Bundled NodePhone VoIP Service
The new Easy Naked plans are now bundled with a NodePhone VoIP service, which includes $10 call credit every month. This means that if you have one of the new Easy Naked plans, you can select a NodePhone2-Special plan - with $10 of included calls at no additional charge!
Read on for how to take advantage of this new offer:
- New Customers - if you are signing up online for an Internode Easy Naked plan, you can select your NodePhone2-Special plan either as part of this order (recommended), or by returning to online signup at a later date and selecting NodePhone VoIP.
- Existing Customer with NodePhone - if you have an earlier Internode Naked ADSL plan and a paid-for NodePhone service, then you first need to change your ADSL plan to one of the new Easy Naked plans. As part of this process, you will be offered the option of changing your current NodePhone plan to NodePhone2-Special.
- Existing Customer without NodePhone - if you have an earlier Internode Naked ADSL plan and do not have a NodePhone service, then you first need to change your ADSL plan to one of the new Easy Naked plans. After your plan has been changed (i.e., after your next monthly rollover day); you can then signup online for your NodePhone2-Special service.
Naturally you can select any other NodePhone plan if desired, or use another VoIP service (the $10 credit only applies to NodePhone2-Special of course!), or not use VoIP at all - it's your choice!
How Fast Is Internode Easy Naked?
The maximum possible speed of an Easy Naked service will depend on a number of factors. These include whether you are connected via an Agile DSLAM or an Optus Wholesale DSLAM, the length and quality of the copper pair that links your premises to your local telephone exchange, and the type of ADSL modem or router that you are using.
A description of these factors is available on this page, as well as a graph that provides an indication of theoretical maximum speed at various line lengths.
When referring to this information please note:
- if connected via an Agile DSLAM, the maximum theoretical speed is 24/1 Mbps using ADSL2+ Annex A. If you have a suitable line and ADSL modem/router, you can select the ADSL2+ Annex M profile which has a maximum theoretical speed of 24/2.5 Mbps. Note however that the default profile continues to be 'high stability'—please refer to this page on the options for changing from the default profile once your service has been established.
- if connected via an Optus Wholesale DSLAM, the maximum theoretical speed is 20 Mbps / 820 kbps using ADSL2+ Annex A. The Annex M profile is not available.
The ADSL modem or router that you use on an Easy Naked service will affect the maximum possible speed—and ADSL2+ capable modem/router is required for the higher speeds. Many older modem/routers are capable of ADSL1 only, and these will be limited to a maximum theoretical download speed of 8 Mbps. All routers sold by Internode are ADSL2+ capable—further details are available here.
Internode does not guarantee that customers who select the Easy Naked plans will be able to obtain the maximum theoretical speeds. Furthermore, there is no guaranteed minimum line synchronisation speed or data transfer rate—upload or download—on this service.
How does Easy Naked compare to Home ADSL?
We've designed Easy Naked to deliver greater value than our previous Home Naked ADSL plans. In particular, Easy Naked supersedes the Home Naked ADSL (NakedExtreme and NakedUltra) plans, which are no longer available for sale.
These are the key differences between Internode Easy Naked and previous Internode Home Naked ADSL plans:
- Quota is much larger at the same price points, and is counted as the sum of uploads plus downloads. Previously Home Naked ADSL plans had smaller quota allocations, and counted download traffic only. Select the Power Pack option if you prefer download counting only.
- Excess traffic shaping is 256 kbps symmetrical. For comparison, previously Home Naked ADSL plans had more restrictive excess shaping of 128 or 64 kbps symmetrical. Select the Power Pack option if you prefer even faster excess shaping of 512 kbps download, with no shaping of upload.
- Single location only. Easy plans are designed to allow one concurrent router login on one specific physical line (you can of course have multiple users sharing this connection). A financial penalty of $1 per hour per additional login may be applied in the case of concurrent logins from multiple distinct physical locations.
- Dynamic IP Address. Like the previous Home Naked ADSL plans, Easy Naked is a dynamic IP address broadband service. Select the Power Pack option if you prefer a static IP address.
Can I keep my phone number?
Yes, in certain circumstances. Specifically, we offer 'number porting' of qualified Telstra-based phone numbers into NodePhone VoIP when 'Convert Active Telephone Service' to an Easy Naked service is chosen during the signup process, and where the service will be delivered via an Agile DSLAM.
Easy Naked services that will be delivered via an Optus Wholesale DSLAM cannot port their phone number to NodePhone at this time.
What if I go over my quota?
You can check how much quota you've used by logging into My Internode from the Internode homepage using your Internode username and password. Once you've logged in, click on "ADSL Usage & Stats" in the "My Services" column.
If you go over your monthly quota on a current Easy Naked plan—or on a previous 'T-Shirt' plan (size S, M, L, XL or XXL)—your connection is slowed to 256 kbps for the rest of your month.
There are no excess quota fees. However if desired, you can purchase a Data Block to top up your monthly quota on demand.
Select the Power Pack option if you prefer even faster excess shaping of 512 kbps download (with the option of Data Blocks); or select the Business Pack options if you prefer excess usage charges with no shaping (Data Blocks are not available with this option).
What about other Home Naked ADSL plan features?
Everything else about the Easy Naked plan is the same as Internode's previous Home Naked ADSL plans:
- A Fixed Monthly Charge—No excess charges, simply speed shaping of any 'excess' traffic beyond your monthly quota inclusion.
- Quota on Demand—If desired, you can purchase a Data Block for a quota top up on-demand—your spend is totally under your control.
- Anytime quota—Use the Internet whenever you like—Internode quota isn’t parcelled into 'friendly' & 'unfriendly' hours of usage.
- Unmetered Content—Including over 100 online streaming radio stations; the extensive games.on.net server farms for low ping gaming; massive mirrors for common file downloads; ABC iView, TiVo and fetchtv online content and more.
- Your Choice of Contract—New customers can choose from discounted setup on a 24 month contract with an early cancellation charge; or pay the full setup fee and have no early cancellation charges—it's your choice.
- Local Expert Support—Our award-winning customer support is available 7 days a week.
- Email Accounts—Up to 5 free email accounts, all with email spam and virus filtering & webmail access and more.
- Free Webspace—Free 50 Mbyte webspace for personal, non-commercial use.
- Dialup Account—Includes a dialup account, for when you're away from your broadband connection, with 10 included hours per month then $1/hour pay-as-you-go. Dialup access is available Australia-wide at local call rates.
- Global Roaming—We offer a global roaming facility for dialup, Wi-Fi and hotel Ethernet access across the world via iPass (separate usage charges apply).
- Security Protection—You'll be protected by our complimentary Network Firewall, which assists in protecting your home network and helps to stop spam and viruses from spreading. You are welcome to disable that protection via an online web page if you wish.
- NodePhone Ready—Add NodePhone Voice over IP (VoIP) and save money on phone calls.
- Choose your Hardware—Bring your own ADSL router, or buy one pre-configured from us.
- Dynamic IP Address—These are 'Layer 2' dynamic IP services, suitable for home broadband access.
A good rule of thumb when trying to figure out whether Easy Naked supports a given feature of a previous Internode Home Naked ADSL plan is: if it isn't mentioned as being different... it's the same!
What are Power Packs and Business Packs?
Internet enthusiasts and business customers have slightly different requirements of their broadband service; and these are addressed via the Power Pack and Business Pack options.
Please note that you can only choose one (or neither) of these options—a service cannot have both types of Option Packs at the same time.
The Power Pack Option
Internet enthusiasts—who may have previously selected a SOHO NakedExtreme or SOHO NakedUltra plan—can simply add a Power Pack option to their Easy Bundle plan. The Power pack option is $10 per month, and adds the following features:
- Static IP—A static IP address (instead of a dynamic IP address) is provided, making these plans suitable for hosting servers and operating Internet Virtual Private Networks.
- Free Uploads—Quota consumption is counted in the download direction only.
- Faster Excess—Excess traffic—beyond the monthly inclusion—is shaped at 512 kbps down / no shaping of upload. And you can still buy data blocks if required.
- Included Subdomain—Choose your own subdomain name under '.power.on.net' (on request and subject to approval by Internode) and link it to your server.
You can request your subdomain name via a support request. Please note that existing Internode SOHO ADSL customers that are plan changing to Easy Naked with a Power Pack can retain their '.soho.on.net' subdomain if they would prefer (in fact, both subdomains will work).
The Business Pack Option
The needs of business customers are addressed by adding a Business Pack option to the Easy plan. The Business pack option is $30 per month, and adds the following features:
- Static IP—A static IP address is provided, with the option of a /29 IP subnet available on request and at no additional charge.
- Free Uploads—Quota consumption is counted in the download direction only.
- Unshaped Excess—Instead, excess traffic is charged at 0.5 cents per Mbyte (download direction only) up to a maximum of $299 per month. Please note that Data Blocks are not available with the Business Pack option.
- Included Subdomain—Choose your own subdomain under '.on.net' (on request and subject to approval by Internode) and link it your servers.
- Priority Business Support—The Business Pack entitles you to priority access to our award-winning, local customer support team, and your ADSL is backed by our Service Level Agreement with defined performance and availability targets.
You can request your subdomain name or IP subnet via a support request. Please note that existing Internode Business ADSL customers that are plan changing to Easy Naked with a Business Pack will retain their current '.on.net' subdomain and any associated IP subnet.
Can I Get Easy Naked?
Easy Naked plans are delivered via either an Agile DSLAM port or an Optus DSLAM port. Note however that the 1000 GB Easy Naked plans are delivered via an Agile DSLAM port only, and only where that DSLAM has sufficient backhaul capacity.
You can check for the availability of Easy Naked services in your area by entering your phone number or address into our Online Coverage Checker.
Easy Naked services will be delivered if there is a suitable DSLAM with free ports in your local exchange, and there is a direct copper path—within acceptable transmission limits—to it.
Are there any coverage limitations?
Internode Easy Naked plans are available wherever you can get a direct copper path connection to an Internode or Optus DSLAM, with the following specific exceptions:
- St Johns & South Launceston in Tasmania
- Geelong in Victoria
- Mount Barker, Mount Gambier, Port Augusta, Port Lincoln & Whyalla Jenkins in South Australia
These exchanges do not currently offer the Easy Naked 1000 GB plan, due to backhaul limitations.
Furthermore, Agile DSLAM in the following exchanges do not offer Easy Naked plans at all:
- Coonalpyn, Maitland, Meningie, Minlaton, Tailem Bend, Tintinara & Whyalla in South Australia
Easy Naked services are not available in the above areas due to the high cost of unbundled local loop in these regions.
Please note that this is a dynamic list and at times we may reach a point where we can no longer support very high quota plans in a given area. If we reach that point, we may automatically migrate existing Easy Naked services to a lower quota plan (and lower the ongoing price accordingly). If you disagree with this change, you may request the cancellation of your service with no early termination charge being applied.
Can I Have a Phone Line and an Easy Plan?
Yes you can! A complimentary range of Easy Broadband and Easy Bundle plans are also available.
What Payment Options Are Available?
Please refer to our payments page for information on how you can pay Internode.
Is there a change to my existing Internode contract term if I move to Easy Naked?
No—if you already have an Internode Naked ADSL service (NakedExtreme via an Agile DSLAM or NakedUltra via an Optus Wholesale DSLAM), then it is simply an online plan change to Easy Naked. You can change plans to Easy Naked without any once-off charges, and without any effect on your existing contract term with Internode.
What Line Profiles Are Available on Internode Easy Naked?
Internode Easy Naked services delivered via an Agile DSLAM have online access to the full range of ADSL line profiles, in order to optimise their connection if required.
Easy Naked services delivered via an Optus Wholesale DSLAM can request to be changed to the following line profiles:
- Default—Standard ADSL2+: 20 Mbps / 820 kbps
- ADSL1: 1.5 Mbps / 256 kbps
- Fast ADSL1: 8 Mbps / 384 kbps or 4 Mbps / 384 kbps
- Moderate ADSL2/ADSL2+: 16 Mbps / 820 kbps or 12 Mbps / 820 kbps
- High Speed ADSL2+: 20 Mbps / 820 kbps with no interleaving (this has lower error thresholds compared to the Standard ADSL2+ profile; however it can be less stable and is only recommended for customers whose loop trace length is very short)
When would I request a line profile change?
A line profile change may assist in troubleshooting:
- Dropouts
- Loss of sync
- Speed issues
What are the limitations with line profile changes?
- Line profile changes may take up to 3 hours to take effect.
- There is a limit of 3 speed profile changes per service per 24 hour period.
- Your Easy Naked service will be temporarily interrupted when the change takes effect.
How do I request a line profile change?
Simply submit a support request by clicking here; or call 13 NODE (13 6633) and select Technical Support (option 1).
A History of Easy Naked
At Internode, we're constantly working on improving our products. Here's a history of how Internode Easy Naked has developed over time.
Easy Naked was launched on 5th November 2009, with a price of $69.95 per month and 50 GB of monthly quota. Services were installed on Agile DSLAM ports only.
- At the beginning of December 2009, an identical plan (called Easy NakedUltra) was created for existing Internode customers connected to Optus DSLAM ports.
- On 30th March 2010, all Easy Naked and Easy NakedUltra customers received a free quota upgrade from 50 GB to 70 GB per month.
On 6th July 2010 a number of product changes were implemented:
- the Easy NakedUltra plan was merged into Easy Naked;
- the monthly price of the plan reduced to $59.95;
-
- the shaping speed increased from 64 kbps to 128 kbps;
- Annex M capability was made available on Agile DSLAM connections;
- the 'Transfer Unbundled Local Loop' process was made available, making it easier to migrate an existing naked service to an Agile DSLAM port; and
- new connections to NakedUltra via Optus DSLAMs commenced.
Easy Naked quickly became Internode's bestselling product!
On 14th September 2010, an exciting range of new Easy Naked plans were made available—ranging from 150 GB up to a massive 1 Terabyte per month!
On 8th February 2011, the Power Pack and Business Pack options were made available on all current Easy Naked plans.
Most recently, on 5th July 2011, the Easy Naked 'T-Shirt' plans were replaced with the current simplified range—30 GB, 200 GB, 300 GB and 1,000 GB. A NodePhone VoIP service—including a $10 monthly call credit—was also bundled with these new plans. The charge for plan changes to lower priced plans was also removed on this day, and this charge no longer applies to either the current or the previous 'T-Shirt' Easy Naked plans.
