Your VoIP equipment can be used with NodePhone in two ways:
The 'lifeline' configuration is recommended for general use and is our standard configuration. NodePhone equipment that has been purchased from Internode (except for Wireless DSL installations) will already be configured this way.
This is because many customers require a traditional telephone service to receive their ADSL broadband Internet connection, so this configuration makes use of it. By connecting a traditional telephone service to your VoIP equipment and using the standard 'lifeline' configuration, you receive the following benefits:

In certain cases - such as Internode's regional wireless broadband networks, and Naked ADSL2+ services - you may not have a traditional telephone service available to use as a 'lifeline'. Of course if you do, feel free to use the 'lifeline' configuration.
But if you don't, then a different configuration is required. This will send all outgoing calls - including 000 and 1300 - out through the NodePhone service.
You should consider alternative methods for calling the 000 emergency services - such as access to a mobile phone - in case the NodePhone service, or your broadband connection, or your mains power is unavailable.

The Gigaset operates in a slightly different way. By default, it will send all calls via NodePhone if available, or via the traditional telephone service if NodePhone is not available.
You will hear a brief alert tone before the phone dials if the call is going out via VoIP. Alternatively, if you hear a standard dial tone before the phone begins to dial, this indicates the call is being routed via the traditional telephone service.
You can easily configure a Gigaset to always route certain calls via the traditional telephone service if desired. For more information, see our Gigaset Support guides:
