Julian said Internode's new NBN service gave their Gardners Bay home faster Internet access than Hobart. "I can't describe how happy we are with it. I am thoroughly impressed," he said.
Gardners Bay is one of the southernmost localities in Australia, offering picturesque scenery, a vibrant local community, and, until recently, painfully slow Internet access.
Julian Bunda and partner Jesse, who have two young children, came to Gardners Bay to visit family more than a decade ago and never left. "We got stuck here because of the beauty," said Julian.
"While it's a good place to raise kids, it is always challenging working in rural areas. I started JJ Drafting to work from home about three years ago. The Internet has been essential in running it, collaborating with engineers and professionals based in town, so I end up sending files to and fro."
Julian said his home was located too far from the telephone exchange to receive ADSL broadband. "We were using a 3G mobile data service for Internet access, which was unpredictable at times," he said.
"That restricted what I could send. Some of my working files go to 50MB and 100MB, so, to get them to clients, I'd have to drive 50 kilometres to town."
However, that problem disappeared in mid-August when Internode launched its NBN Fixed Wireless 25/5 residential broadband service. Previously the fastest NBN Fixed Wireless service was 12/1.
Julian said the Internode NBN Fixed Wireless 25/5 broadband service had transformed his experience of using the Internet. "I couldn't imagine getting these kinds of speeds," he said.
"We have faster speeds than in Hobart. It has exceeded my expectations. We get at least 23 megabits per second (Mbps) and we've hit 29 at times. Now I can email large files rather than drive them to town."
"We have Internode's NodePhone VoIP service over the NBN, which has been flawless. Also I use Skype quite a bit for video conversations with family all over the world from Norway to Romania to Japan. The quality of our service is impeccable."
"I can't say enough about how good our new broadband is. I'm still coming to terms with its potential."
Internode's NBN Fixed Wireless 25/5 broadband service has also delivered a boon to Jesse, who paints portraits and landscapes. "Jesse is a formally trained painter who promotes herself through word of mouth and exhibitions and a lot of networking online," said Julian.
"Now that we have fast and reliable Internet access, creating a website for her is the next step. We have been working on that, so it's definitely on the books."
NBN Product Manager Rachel McIntyre said the launch of Internode NBN Fixed Wireless 25/5 service gave families in remote areas access to the same online service as if they lived in a city. "Customers are delighted with the speed, reliability and quality of these services," she said.
