NodeMobile Data offers you the choice of:
- a SIM-only service; either a regular SIM or a Micro-SIM for an Apple iPad; or
- the choice of two 3G USB modems; or
- new - the freedom and flexibility of your own portable 3G/WiFi hotspot.
Power up your Apple iPad
If you have a 3G enabled Apple iPad, choose from any of our popular mobile broadband plans and select the $10 'Micro-SIM' when your order your NodeMobile service.
A delivery charge of $5 applies, Australia-wide.
3G USB modems
- The Huawei E173 is available free on a 24 month contract; or $99 on a 1 month contract. It supports high speed downloads (HSDPA-7.2) & uploads HSUPA-2.0).
- For professional and business use, the ZTE MF652 is an enhanced device, delivering potentially higher download speeds (HSDPA-21) and upload speeds (HSUPA-5.7). This device is $20 on a 24 month contract or $119 on a 1 month contract.
These modems simply connect to a USB interface on a laptop with the following specifications:
- Standard USB 2.0 interface
- Microsoft Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista and Mac OS X 10.3.7 or above.
- 100 MB free hard disk space or above.
- 128 MB RAM or above.
You can also connect these modems via USB to a suitable broadband router. Please note that the Huawei E173 has been sucessfully tested with the FRITZ!Box and Billion 740x series routers; however the ZTE MF652 is not yet supported. We also have some stock of the fully compatible Huawei E1762 (same price as the MF652) if specifically required for use with these routers.
Features of the E173 and MF652 3G Modems
- E173 - High Speed Downlink and Uplink Packet Access (7.2 Mbps HSDPA and 2.0 Mbps HSUPA).
- MF652 - Enhanced High Speed Downlink and Uplink Packet Access (21 Mbps HSDPA and 5.76 Mbps HSUPA); supporting potentially higher speeds.
The speed that you obtain will vary depending on a number of factors, which are presented on our NodeMobile Data Performance page.
These are 3G dual band devices, operating at both 900 MHz and 2100 MHz for extended coverage. Other common features include:
- 2G & 2.5G GSM/GPRS/EDGE at 850, 900, 1800 & 1900 MHz; so you can automatically access these networks when outside 3G coverage zones.
- Plug & Play modem drivers included on USB stick for current Windows and Mac operating systems.
- Text Messaging - includes a convenient SMS application (Windows operating system only) - send standard text messages from your laptop for 25 cents each.
- MicroSD Card Slot for onboard memory (the MicroSD card is not included, but these are widely available from electronics retailers).
- NodeMobile Data SIM included.
- $15 delivery charge, Australia-wide.
- 24 months warranty.
External Antenna for 3G USB Modems
For customers requiring NodeMobile Data in areas of low 3G signal strength, we recommend the Panorama TCLIP2 3G Mobile Broadband Antenna. Detailed product information is available from the Panorama Antennas website.
The TCLIP2 connects directly to the antenna port on a ZTE MF5652 or Huawei E169, E160E, E1762 or E173 3G USB modem. If you are using a different type of modem, please note the antenna has a 'CRC9' connector type.
Conveniently the antenna can be either desk mounted, or clipped to your laptop. Simple to use and remarkably effective, these antennas are only $29.95 (plus $10 delivery Australia-wide).
Other Hardware
Internode also continues to support the E169, E160E & E1762 3G modems purchased by NodeMobile customers prior to the release of the latest generation of hardware.
We do not provide support for any other hardware used with a NodeMobile Data service.
Note that the Huawei E220 3G modem and E960 3G router are approved for connection; however Internode does not provide support for these devices. They do not operate at the 'regional' 3G frequency of 900 MHz, and so are not recommended for customers requiring high speed regional connectivity.
However if you have such a device, and the lack of regional high speed connections is not an issue, you can simply purchase a regular NodeMobile SIM for $10. A delivery charge of $5 applies, Australia-wide.
iPhone tethering is not currently supported on NodeMobile Data services.
