Internode Accelerates East Coast ADSL2+ Rollout

29-05-2006

Agile / Internode ADSL2+ DSLAMsInternode has dramatically accelerated its plans to deploy super-fast ADSL2+ broadband, earmarking nearly 50 extra telephone exchanges, many of which are in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney and Brisbane.

After a year of spectacular growth, Internode has committed to a multi-million-dollar upgrade of its ADSL2+ deployment schedule from 67 exchanges to 113 exchanges throughout the country. This includes 14 extra exchanges in Melbourne, 12 more in Sydney, five in Canberra and seven in Brisbane.

Internode will continue to deploy ADSL2+ at metropolitan and regional exchanges in South Australia.

Internode managing director Simon Hackett said work would start immediately on building about a quarter of the new ADSL2+ sites. "We expect to have ADSL2+ in most of these new exchanges by the end of the year," he said. "Because of strong demand, we are including additional exchanges in the CBD areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Canberra. As part of our commitment to the bush, we are also undertaking significant regional expansion in SA including Port Lincoln, Whyalla and Mount Barker."

"With our total planned rollout boosted beyond 110 exchanges, we're signalling that neither the downturn seen by some other providers nor Telstra's attempts to sabotage competition in this realm are going to stop us from expanding our ADSL2+ coverage around Australia.”

Internode has led Australia in delivering second generation broadband communication services. It operates its own carrier-grade national network with high capacity links to the US. Last year, Internode became the first company in Australia to launch super-fast ADSL2+ broadband services, which can run 16 times faster than Telstra’s fastest broadband plans.

As well as broadband Internet access, Internode offers the NodePhone Voice over Broadband service, private national networks for companies and has introduced broadband to regional areas including the Coorong and the Yorke Peninsula. It has also provided the South Australian Government with Internet access services for more than a decade, a contract that was recently renewed in a $2.2 million deal.

Internode's regional extensions to its existing rural SA network coverage at Murray Bridge, the Coorong and on the Yorke Peninsula clearly set it apart as the State's leading next generation Internet provider.
