US direct cable capacity boosted with SCCN
Signed in January, the contract means SCCN will increase the direct US capacity it provides to Internode by one third by the middle of this year. Since 2005, Internode has maintained two geographically separate SCCN links from Sydney to the US, one to Los Angeles, and the other to San Jose.
Internode already has about six gigabits per second of international circuit capacity to the US through SCCN and Australia Japan Cable (AJC). That is a 10-fold increase since Internode first started using SCCN capacity in March 2005.
Internode Carrier Relations Manager John Lindsay said Internode's extended partnership with SCCN was great news for its customers. "This new agreement substantially boosts our US direct network capacity for Internode customers and prepares us for the next few years of continued rapid growth," he said
Southern Cross Cable Limited Director Sales and Marketing Ross Pfeffer said SCCN was happy to establish a longer-term partnership with Internode. "I've worked closely with them for three years and established an excellent working relationship," he said. "Internode is now a very sizeable ISP and we are pleased to see our capacity underpinning their provision of high speed broadband services in Australia."
The agreement with SCCN underscores Internode's commitment to engaging with all significant cable systems available from Australia including SCCN, AJC, and Pipe Networks' recently announced PPC-1 cable.
"Southern Cross is unique in delivering diversity of supply from an extremely robust ring network that provides the lowest possible latency for our US traffic," said John Lindsay. "Internode's national Internet services are second to none for performance, value-for-money and reliability."
Internode Managing Director Simon Hackett said Internode customers would see the benefit of the new SCCN deal during the course of this year. "We expect that the deployment of this new Southern Cross capacity will allow us to improve our download 'bang for buck' later in 2008," he said.
"Rather than put all our eggs in one basket, we deploy capacity across multiple geographically disparate cable systems, both internationally and across our Australian national backbone, to deliver our customers the ultimate in reliable and fast Internet services."
