After a year of preparation, NodePhone2 now offers full national reach, extending it to 2100 zones ranging from Aberfoyle to Zamia Creek.

NodePhone grabs national reach from A to Z

07-03-2008

NodePhone effectively turns all of Australia into a local call zone by running over a broadband service to deliver 18-cent untimed calls to any fixed phone in the country. NodePhone2 is Internode's two-way NodePhone service, allowing both incoming and outgoing calls.

The latest NodePhone2 enhancements allow Internode to issue telephone numbers within any phone zone in Australia, creating a truly national call origination and termination voice service.

NodePhone2's national reach elevates it above most Internet-based VoIP (Voice over Internet Protocol) phone services, which only offer phone numbers in major metropolitan areas.

NodePhone product manager Jim Kellett said the extended reach for NodePhone2 was part of Internode's commitment to regional customers. "Most VoIP services only offer in-dial numbers for metropolitan centres or, at best, large regional towns," he said.

"While that suits some people, it is frustrating for potential regional customers whose next door neighbour may have to pay for a 'long distance' call to reach them by phone."

"To solve this problem, Internode has worked for more than a year to add the capability for new NodePhone2 customers to select their NodePhone2 telephone number in any local calling zone in the country. That capability is now available - meaning that NodePhone2 customers all the way from Aberfoyle to Zamia Creek can now have a telephone number that is local to where they live."

Aberfoyle is a rural area north-east of Armidale in the Northern Tablelands of NSW, while Zamia Creek is a pastoral property near a 7km waterway in central Queensland.

NodePhone customers require a broadband service that runs at speeds of 512 kilobits per second or faster in order to take advantage of the NodePhone service. NodePhone is designed to run on third party broadband services as well as Internode-provided plans.

Internode has also more than quadrupled the coverage of its newly announced NodePhone MultiLine service, which provides NodePhone customers with quick, easy and affordable on-demand access to extra telephone channels. Internode has added an additional 121 zones * from which it offers MultiLine, increasing the total from 37 to 158 zones.

The additional MultiLine-capable zones include:
