News and Media

Today, Internode has radically increased the value and coverage of its fully symmetric business-grade SHDSL broadband services.

Fast symmetric business broadband reach extended

14-12-2010

The flagship Extreme SHDSL service delivers broadband over copper at speeds of up to 40 Mbps symmetrical, and is now available in a dozen new exchanges in Brisbane. This complements the extensive and rapidly expanding Extreme SHDSL coverage in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

Internode has also released a new range of Extreme SHDSL plans - offering a five to 10-fold increase in monthly quotas on the entry plans. Internode has also shaved pricing for the popular Unlimited Quota plans by 25 per cent. SHDSL stands for Symmetric High-speed Digital Subscriber Line.

In other enhancements to the Internode's Business Internet product line, Ultra SHDSL now delivers speeds of up to 20 Mbps symmetrical in 164 exchange areas, covering the majority of business customers. Internode also offers 10 Mbps symmetrical broadband at more than 500 exchanges, including many regional centres. A further 1500 exchanges support 2 and 4 Mbps symmetrical services.

Internode's SHDSL services offer fully-symmetric Internet access speeds for businesses that have outgrown the upstream constraints of an ADSL2+ connection, yet do not want to commit to the cost or complexity of a fibre-optic Internet service.

In particular, the higher upload speeds of SHDSL support next generation applications such as IP Telephony, Internet Virtual Private Networks, onsite web services and IP videoconferencing. All Internode's SHDSL services are IPv6-capable.

Internode product manager Jim Kellett said more widely available high-speed SHDSL services would meet greater business demand until the NBN arrived. "It's businesses rather than residential customers who are leading the way in the adoption of high-speed Internet access," he said.

"Internode's range of SHDSL services provides a great combination of performance, affordability and flexibility for customers that want to boost their Internet access speeds without incurring the high capital cost and disruption of civil works required to put a fibre-optic connection into their premises."
