An out-of-this-world Internode radio ad campaign has won an international advertising accolade, announced this week in New York City.

Internode tastes success in the Big Apple

23-09-2014

The Klingon radio ad campaign, which Internode launched in the middle of last year, secured a bronze CLIO award in the audio category for Australian advertising agency Marketforce.

The ads - which were spoken completely in Klingon, the language of the knobbly-headed aliens from Star Trek - was also a sales success for Internode due to their quirkiness and memorability.  Individual ad spots in Klingon and Elvish (from Lord of the Rings) were also shortlisted in the CLIOs.

The CLIO Awards are one of the world's most prestigious international advertising awards presented annually to reward innovation and creative excellence in advertising, design, and communication.

Marketing Manager Jane Orchard, who oversaw the Klingon campaign, said it had aimed to capture the Internode essence. "Internode is a fun geeky brand that’s never afraid to be different," she said.

"The Klingon campaign captured this beautifully and it’s wonderful that the world’s advertising industry has recognised it as an outstanding piece of creativity."

Marketforce Creative Director Pat Lennox said the campaign succeeded because it cut through. "Radio can sometimes be a cluttered medium. It showed fantastic insight from Internode to produce a campaign that was so different, and impactful, for the media space," he said.
