As Internode's CTO, John Lindsay leads the Technology Department in the development and operation of new Internet technologies. John joined Internode in 2000 as the Technology Operations Manager and has held various roles including being General Manager of Regulatory and Corporate Affairs until the end of 2011.
John passionately pushed for Internode to extend its national First Tier Network to the U.S.—the heart of the Internet—to ensure the company has end-to-end independence for delivering business-class broadband to its customers.
"When I started here over ten years ago, our vision was for Internode to become independent", he says.
"Our international network is one of our really great achievements. We operate network infrastructure in seven countries with capacity on all the major submarine cable routes. Along with the implementation of our ADSL2+ DSLAMs around Australia this means that every piece of network operation on our network, from here to the world, is controlled and maintained by us and not other service providers."
Building a home ISP as part of APANA was the foundation that led to a partnership in iiNet SA, and later becoming General Manager of Chariot Internet. In 1999, John moved to Perth to assist in the successful float of iiNet Ltd by serving as Operations Manager. With the birth of his first child, he returned to work in Adelaide for Internode in 2000.
When not at work, John spends his free time with his wife and two children. He also enjoys German cars, renovations and has published an Arduino based Open Source Internet-connected Solar Inverter monitoring system.
