About FibrePhone

With an Internode FibrePhone service, you simply use your own conventional telephone handset or cordless system (not supplied), and make and receive calls in the usual way. The phone connection is controlled in the Network Termination Device - you don't even need to turn your router or computer on!

  • Local Numbering - one telephone number is assigned within your local geographic call zone.
  • Online Toolbox - you can conveniently set Call Forwards, Speed Dials, Call Barring and other features, as well as download your call records, via a simple online user interface. Includes Caller ID and Voicemail.
  • Advanced Features - also included is Caller ID presentation plus a sophisticated voicemail system, including the option of voicemail as email - with no usage charges and at no additional cost.

The underlying technology of a FibrePhone telephone service is voice-over-IP - specifically, Internode's NodePhone platform. However as a customer, you simply use it as you would any other 'landline' phone service.

The VoIP equipment is managed for you, in the optical network termination unit at your premises. And unlike traditional VoIP, no broadband traffic charges apply - the VoIP traffic is carried on a separate circuit to your broadband.

Important Information about the Internode FibrePhone Service

The Internode FibrePhone service is a fully featured next-generation telephony service that can both make calls to, and receive calls from, the public switched telephone network. While it is of a high availability design, it should not be relied upon for emergency communications (for example if you or any other resident have a serious medical condition). Priority Assistance is not available.

We do not offer priority assistance, nor support for medi-alert services and monitored alarm systems. Priority assistance is offered by Telstra for people who may be reliant on a telephone service because of a serious medical condition. If you have a medi-alert or priority assistance service or believe that you are eligible, please consider this before proceeding with your order.

Please note that the telephone service requires AC electrical power at your premises to operate - it is your responsibility to address the battery backup option for your home communications system.

  • This telephone service is not specifically designed to support 'traditional' analog / voice services that require an analog modem connection. This includes dialup, monitored alarms, EFTPOS machines, modems, etc.
  • Calls to Premium Rate services starting with 190 are also not available.
  • You'll also require a standard telephone handset or DECT cordless base station in order to use the Internode FibrePhone telephone service.
