Step 1: Connecting the Gigaset Base Station to your router
First, make sure your Gigaset phone is plugged in correctly:
- Connect one end of the supplied Ethernet cable to the side network port on the Gigaset base station. Connect the other end to a free port on the back of your router.
- To enable the 'failover & incoming PSTN calls' feature with NodePhone, connect a telephone cable from the Local Phone port on the ADSL splitter to the rear phone port on the back of the base station. If you do not use this feature (for example, because you're on a Naked service and have no analog telephone service) then you do not need to plug anything into the rear port.
- Connect the small circular power plug to the rear of the base station.
- Plug the power supply in to a 240V AC outlet. The Gigaset will turn on; there is no physical power switch on the base station.
- The Registration and Paging button on the front of the base station should light up blue. If this light does not light up blue, ensure the Ethernet cable is connected properly between the side port on the base station and your router.
Step 2: Registering the Handset to the Gigaset Base Station
Please note, the supplied handset batteries may only contain a minimal initial charge and may require charging after initial configuration. If you are unable to turn the handset on, please place the phone into the supplied charger (by following the steps below) to re-charge the batteries.
- Connect the power cable to the phone charger by sliding the power card into the slot on the back of the charger.
- Plug the power supply in to a 240V AC outlet.
- Remove the battery cover from the rear of the handset and insert the supplied AAA rechargeable batteries.
- The handset should power on and automatically register with the base station.
If the handset does not turn on…
- Ensure the batteries have been inserted correctly.
- Press and hold the End Call button (red phone icon) for approximately 2 seconds. The phone should power on.
- If the phone still does not turn on the batteries may be flat. Place the handset into the supplied charger; ensuring the charger is connected to a power supply.
Step 3: Configuration
Follow this step to configure a Gigaset with default NodePhone settings. Please note this step isn't required if you have purchased your Gigaset from Internode, as it has been pre-configured.
- For quick configuration of your Gigaset, you can use the provided handset to configure your phone without the need of your computer. Alternatively, you can use a web browser on your PC.
- Please note that your Gigaset will require access to the Internet in order for the Connection Assistant in order to download the NodePhone settings.

Additional Information
Dial Plans
When using default factory settings the Gigaset will route all calls via the active VoIP connection. If you use a traditional analog phone line and wish for certain numbers to always be sent via this line (or another VoIP account), it is possible to set a rule via the Web Configuration:
- Open your preferred web browser - for example, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
- Press the blue Registration and Paging button on the front of the base station. This will page your handset and display the current IP address of the Gigaset on the LCD screen.
- Enter this IP address into the address bar in your web browser, and press enter.
- The Gigaset login screen will be displayed. Enter the system PIN of 0000 and click OK
- Click on the Settings tab.
- Click Telephony.
- Click Dialing Plans.
- Enter the Phone Number you wish to make an exception for and choose a Connection Type (Fixed Line will always be the PSTN line).
- Enter a comment for the number and click Add.
- To activate the rule ensure the Active checkbox is checked.
For example, you could enter 000 in the Phone Number box; select Fixed Line in the Connection Type box; and enter Emergency000 in the Comments box; then press Add. This would send all 000 Emergency calls out via your traditional PSTN telephone service, instead of via NodePhone.
Firmware Upgrades
In the event of updated software being available, your handset will be paged advising you that new firmware is available to download. To begin the update process simply accept the download and the new software will be automatically downloaded and installed.
Please note this process can take several minutes to complete and your handset will flash Base until the process is complete. It is recommend that you restart your handset after the firmware upgrade has completed.
Enable the Message Wait Indicator feature with NodePhone Voicemail (NodePhone 2 Only)
It is possible to setup the Gigaset to display a notification when a message is waiting in your NodePhone mailbox. Please note - if you purchased the Gigaset from Internode this feature will already be enabled on your phone.
Enter the system PIN of 0000 and click OK.
- Click on the Settings tab.
- Click Telephony.
- Click Network Mailbox.
- Under the Connection assigned to NodePhone enter the Call Number as 111.
- If you also use a message service on your PSTN Line (for example Telstra Message Bank 101) then enter the phone number for the messaging service under Fixed Line.
- Be sure to check the Active checkbox to enable each message service.
- Click Set to save changes.
The MWI (Message Wait Indicator) light on the phone will flash whenever a new voice message is waiting. Simply press the MWI button and select the appropriate provider to access your voicemail.
Configure Network Time Server
To save the hassle of configuring the local time on each handset connected to the Gigaset, it is possible to configure the Gigaset to use Internode’s NTP (Network Time Protocol) server:
- Open your preferred web browser - for example, Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, or Mozilla Firefox.
- Press the blue Registration and Paging button on the front of the base station. This will page your handset and display the current IP address of the Gigaset on the LCD screen.
- Enter this IP address into the address bar in your web browser, and press enter.
- The Gigaset login screen will be displayed. Enter the system PIN of 0000 and click OK.
- Click on the Settings tab.
- Click Miscellaneous.
- Under the Time section set the following settings:
- Automatic adjustment of System Time with Time Server: Yes
- Time Server: ntp.internode.on.net
- Country: Australia
- Time Zone: choose your local time zone from the list
- Automatically adjust clock to summer-time changes: Yes
- Click on Set to save changes.
Handsets will request an update independently from the base station. In the case of multiple handsets connected to the same base station, there may be slight time differences between each handset until the next re-sync occurs.
Call Waiting
The Gigaset supports 2 simultaneous VoIP channels. Call Waiting must be enabled in the NodePhone toolbox and on the Gigaset for the second channel to work.
Activating/deactivating call waiting
- Press Menu
- Select Services: VoIP
- Call Waiting: On/Off
Accepting/rejecting a waiting call
This is all done via the LCD display. An alert will be heard via the speaker and appropriate options will be displayed on the handset. You can place a call on hold, switch between calls and conference calls together via the handset.
Email Notifications
Both the C470 and A580 have the ability to check a POP account and display email notification messages to the handset. While this feature is available on both base stations, only the C47H handset is capable of showing POP3 notifications to the LCD screen. Customers wanting to use this feature will need to use a C47H handset with either model base station.
To configure this feature login to the base station via the GUI and click on Messaging under the Status Tab. Enter in account and POP server information under Email and click Set to save settings. Only the subject lines of emails can be viewed on the phone.
Activating Info Services
Info Services is a free service that adds additional functionality to the Gigaset phones. Both the C470 and A580 models support this feature. With Info Services activated, the handset can be used to view RSS feeds, biorhythm, horoscope, weather updates and more.
Please note that Info Services is a feature offered by Gigaset. Internode does not provide support and there may be times where certain feeds are unavailable - this is completely outside of Internode's control. For more information on how to activate Info Services please visit http://gigaset.net/en/ and follow the instructions.
Gigasets & VoIP Routers
If your broadband router has built-in VoIP ports - for example, a Billion 7400 series - then it will send Internet traffic on the standard VoIP ports (SIP on 5060 & RTP on 5100) to it's own on-board analog telephone adapter.
These ports are also the default settings for the Gigaset, of course, and this can cause issues such as call-dropouts or one way audio. This can be resolved by either:
- Changing the local SIP and RTP ports on the Gigaset (then the router's VoIP ports can still be used); or
- Simply disabling SIP Application Layer Gateway on the router completely.
On older Billions with firmware prior to 5.60c, it isn't possible to completely disable SIP or even port forward 5060 to another device. To get around this use different local SIP/RTP ports, so the Billion won't play around with SIP packets coming from the Gigaset.
New Billion firmware (5.56c) and the Billion X series provide the option of disabling on-board SIP completely. If problems persist, then change the SIP/RTP ports of the Gigaset via the Advanced Settings menu.
